Frequently Asked Questions
Absolutely! Supported Independent Living, or SIL, is a type of NDIS funding that’s all about helping people with disabilities live as independently as possible. It’s typically for those who need support around the clock while living in a shared home and helps cover the costs of the support staff in the house.
A SIL provider is like a supportive friend who delivers assistance and services to people with disabilities, helping them live independently within their communities. At Mimosa Care, we’re proud to be a SIL provider, offering tailored support to encourage self-sufficiency and independence for our lovely clients.
Ah, great question! Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) and Supported Independent Living (SIL) might sound similar, but they have different focuses. SDA is all about the physical housing, ensuring it’s designed for folks with significant impairments, while SIL is the support service that helps individuals with disabilities to live independently. So, SDA is about the place, and SIL is about the support!
No worries, we’ve got you covered! If you fall ill while in SIL, a support worker will be there to assist you at home, especially if you can’t attend your regular daily activities like work or day programs. They can also help you get medical treatment and go to appointments if needed. If it’s something serious, your caregivers will arrange for an ambulance to get you to the hospital.
SIL for eligible individuals is funded by the NDIS scheme, and the package might include:
- Individual NDIS package (core supports)
- Independent Living Supported by the NDIS (SIL)
- Government support (prior to NDIS)
- Personal Insurance
- Government insurance program (like TAC, NIIS)
Rent and other day-to-day living expenses aren’t typically covered by supported independent funding. If you’re curious about increasing your support levels or figuring out your eligibility for SIL packages and assistance, Mimosa Care is here to help!
Oh, there are so many! Supported Independent Living isn’t just about living independently; it’s about being an active member of the community and growing as an individual while working towards your goals. Some of the top benefits include:
- Enjoying a more social life
- Boosting your independence and confidence
- Having more control over your choices
- Developing daily living skills for a healthier lifestyle
We believe that the right individual support can make a world of difference in the lives of people with disabilities and their support networks. Our SIL plans are crafted based on the individual’s needs, as identified by them and those who know them best.
